Mentors should show students how to prepare a sample and also take the NMRs for the students. Students do not need to go to the NMR themselves, they can retrieve their file from Filezilla later.
Mentors: Taking an NMR:
- Login to the computer at the NMR spectrometer.
- Wipe the NMR tube with a tissue. Insert the sample into the spinner and into the depth gauge.
- Instructions for using the instrument is written in a manual with images next to the computer. You will use it to collect data but do not 'process' your NMR at the spectrometer. Here are simplified instructions, but please refer to manual:
- Eject
- Insert
- Under Shim – choose default shims
- New study
- proton (gray box)
- Enter name for sample
- Choose solvent (CDCl3, DMSO, etc.)
- Double click 'proton' in white box
- Change to 'foreground'
- Submit
- Eject when screen says 'DONE'
- Uncheck lock and spin
- Close program and choose the green man at the top to logout.
- Return to lab and clean NMR tube(s).
